The Wayside Retirement Center has been owned and operated by three generations of the Berg family. The residence was established in 1960 by Morris berg. He was the first person in the state of New Jersey to design and build a home specifically for the elderly. Many of his ideas have become standard in the health care industry today and his philosophy of a small, family-oriented residence has been embraced by leading gerontologists.
Michael Berg joined his father in 1965. Michael along with his wife Pamela have continued the tradition of excellence of health care that was established by his father. Their daughter Nicole is also on staff and all three members of the family have certificates in Gerontology, the Science of Aging. This gives them a better understanding of the needs of the residents.
The Wayside Retirement Center is nestled comfortably on three and a half acres of beautifully landscaped grounds.
“A Little Hidden Gem”,
centrally located in Monmouth County, our country setting provides peaceful privacy and yet we are only minutes from the Atlantic Ocean.

Our beautifully decorated buildings are one level for the convenience of the residents. Nutritious home cooked meals are served family style in a wonderful bed and breakfast atmosphere. We assist in all activities of daily living, including but not limited to, medication supervision, bathing and dressing. The priority of our professional staff is the safety, well being, and comfort of each resident. Our experienced team provides your loved one with security and personal attention 24 hours a day. Our employees are not only committed to giving, an outstanding level of care, but enjoy what they do. In fact many of them have a long history here at Wayside.
Regular health and wellness assessments are done by our registered nurses who are on call 24 hours a day. They work closely with the residents’ physicians, and other medical personnel, including physical, occupational, and speech therapy, dentist, podiatrist, optometrist, optician, lab services and social services.
Wayside offers a short term stay program to provide solutions to families going away or if you just need a short break from care- giving. Short stays are also an option for seniors who require some assistance after surgery or an illness. We have found that after a short stay, many guests decide to make Wayside their new home.
Wayside Retirement Center is committed to our residents and their families. When your loved one joins our family here at Wayside, you will have the peace of mind that they will be well taken care of.
